These instructions describe the proposed experience. Button names, permissions, and available features must be checked against the released Cook Guard app.
Start with one simple timer.
- When available, install Cook Guard from its verified Google Play listing.
- Open the app and review any notification or alarm setup prompts.
- Create a timer, add a recognizable name such as “Pasta,” and choose a duration.
- Start a short test timer. Confirm that you see and hear the reminder.
- Repeat the test with your screen locked before using background reminders.
The previews on this website are illustrations. They do not run real timers or alarms.
Keep each dish in view.
Use a separate named timer for each cooking task. Choose names you can recognize quickly, such as “Rice,” “Tea,” or “Oven check.”
Quick time adjustments
If available in your version, use Quick Add Time to extend a timer. Check the updated duration before returning to your cooking.
Presets and interval reminders
Presets are intended to save commonly used durations. Interval reminders are intended for regular checks such as stirring or flipping. Confirm both features and their behavior in the released app.
A clearer view with Kitchen Mode.
Kitchen Mode is intended to give the active timer more space, with large digits and accessible controls. Set the phone on a stable surface away from heat, water, and food preparation.
Check whether your version keeps the screen awake and whether it supports landscape orientation. The website’s landscape preview does not establish that either feature is available in the app.
Understand the setup prompts.
Only enable permissions requested by the installed app for features you use. Android labels and options vary by version and phone manufacturer.
- Notifications: may be used to show timer status and alerts.
- Alarms & reminders: some implementations require special alarm access for precise timing. Check the app’s guidance and your system settings.
- Battery or background settings: restrictions may affect background behavior. Follow your phone manufacturer’s instructions when troubleshooting.
- Lock-screen visibility or full-screen alerts: availability depends on the app and Android settings. Do not assume every reminder will appear over the lock screen.

When your screen is locked.
Android provides alarm mechanisms for time-based reminders, but behavior depends on how the app implements them and on device settings. Cook Guard’s final implementation has not been verified for this template.
- Check the relevant notification and alarm permissions.
- Set an audible alarm volume and review Do Not Disturb settings.
- Check app battery restrictions and manufacturer-specific background controls.
- Start a short test, lock the screen, and observe the result.
- Recheck after changing settings or updating the app or operating system.

Something didn’t ring?
No sound or notification
Check that the timer was started, the chosen sound is audible, notifications are allowed, and alarm volume is turned up. Review Do Not Disturb and any relevant sound routing.
Works on screen, but not in the background
Review battery and background restrictions. Check any alarm access prompts. Run another short test with the phone locked. Exact steps vary between devices.
After restarting your phone
Reopen Cook Guard and verify each timer. Do not assume timers survive a reboot unless that behavior is documented and tested in your app version.
